 Penukonda is a town in the sri satya sai  district of Andhra pradesh, india. It is 70 to 75 kM away from ananthapur town.       Penukonda fort is one of the main attraction of anathapur. Located at a distance of nearly  70 KM from ananthapur, the fort derived it's named from the word penukonda, which literally means big hill. This historic fort was once the second capital of the vijayanagar empire.       Situated  in penukonda, the fort was previously known by the name Ghanagiri.
